Deal with unpaid pension after the deceased

Was your spouse, mother or father receiving a pension before they died? If so, you may be entitled to an unpaid pension payable on the date of the insuree's death. Social Insurance Agency pays such unpaid pension to the deceased's closest relatives.

Am I entitled to an unpaid pension after the deceased?

Text

The entitlement to an unpaid pension after the deceased commences if the pensioner did not receive the pension or if the pension was awarded to them before their death, or if the insuree fulfilled the qualifying conditions to a pension, applied for its payment and then died. In such a case, the Social Insurance Agency will gradually pay the unpaid pension to the husband/wife, children and parents of the deceased, regardless of whether they lived in the same household or not.

How to apply for unpaid pension after the deceased?

Text

You apply for unpaid pension after the deceased as follows:

  • If you are the husband/wife of the deceased, you can make a claim when applying for a widow's/widower's pension. (See also How to apply for a widow's pension or How to apply for a widower's pension.)
  • If you are a child, you apply for the payment of the amounts due on the pension benefit after the deceased parent, in which you also declare that you are the only child of the deceased or (in the case of several children) acknowledge that the unpaid pension is a joint entitlement of all the children of the deceased.
  • If you are a parent, you apply for the payment of the amounts due on the pension benefit after the deceased child, in which you also declare that you are the father/mother and the only direct heir of the deceased child.

Choose a method to apply for the unpaid pension after the deceased:
